It has been a few months since our last update on the status of the Kuykenstrong Foundation, but I’m pleased to announce that we have been busy behind the scenes putting together the first of a series of fundraising events for 2014-15. As always, donations received will go to benefit the children being treated in Georgetown University Hospital’s oncology department.

The Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup will take place August 29 and 31 at American University in Washington, D.C.

Featuring the men’s soccer teams of American, George Mason, George Washington, and Howard, the Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup marks the start of the NCAA season for all four teams and will be the inaugural fundraising event for the Foundation.

The Kuykenstrong Foundation would like to thank American head coach Todd West and George Mason head coach Greg Andrulis for their help in making this event possible.

Though the College Cup is the first public event, there have been hundreds benefactors who have contributed to the Foundation since March. Our sincere thanks to each of you for your generosity and support. Your dedication to the Foundation makes it possible for us to realize all of the hopes and dreams Shawn had for our cause.

In June, the Major League Soccer Players Union made a $10,000 donation to the Foundation in memory of Shawn. The generosity of everyone in MLS and the Players Union has been overwhelming, and we are truly humbled.

In May, the Kuykenstrong Foundation submitted its application to become a non-profit organization 501(c)3. That application is currently under review, and we are hopeful to be given non-profit status by the end of the year.

We have also successfully trademarked Kuykenstrong, to ensure Shawn’s message is delivered in the spirit in which he shared.

Finally, a special thank you to David Miller and Kyle Sheldon for investing countless hours of their time, energy, and skill in helping launch the Kuykenstrong Foundation out of its infancy.

Please continue to visit back this summer as we continue to share more news and announce future Kuykenstrong events.

Stay Kuykenstrong,

Mike Foss
