The Kuykenstrong Foundation is pleased to announce the inaugural Shawn Kuykendall Memorial Soccer Tournament. The event will be hosted at the Evergreen Sports Complex in Leesburg, Va. August 8-9.

“We are excited to launch our first independent fundraiser and also celebrate Shawn’s legacy in such a fitting way,” Kuykenstrong Foundation chairman Mike Foss said. “It’s an opportunity to share the beautiful game and raise much-needed funds for the fight against pediatric cancer.”

The tournament will feature 32 teams in four age brackets – U9, U10, U11, and U12 – from the D.C. metropolitan area. The two-day event will also include a silent auction and an adult charity game. All tournament proceeds will benefit the Kuykenstrong Foundation and pediatric cancer research.

“Kuykenstrong exists to support the battle against cancer, but we are also preserving the legacy of someone who spent his entire life on a soccer pitch,” Foss said. “Shawn left an indelible mark on the soccer community, so a tournament in his honor, focused on improving the lives of others, is such a fitting way to continue what Shawn started before he died.”

The mission of the Kuykenstrong Foundation is to support children suffering from pediatric cancer and their families. Partnering with the Georgetown University Lombardi Cancer Center and Dr. Aziza T. Shad, Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Kuykenstrong provides financial support, resources, and above all friendship to families at Georgetown University Hospital.

Team registration will be open soon. If you are interested in volunteering at the event please e-mail the Kuykenstrong Foundation at kuykenstrong@gmail.com

The Kuykenstrong Foundation’s application for 501(c)3 non-profit status is currently under review.
