Kuykenstrong donates $30,000 to Georgetown University’s Department of Pediatric Hematology & Oncology

The Kuykenstrong Foundation has pledged $30,000 to Georgetown University in support of the Child Life Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The donation continues the partnership between the two non-profits which began in 2014.

“We are so pleased to continue supporting Georgetown Hospital and the incredible people in the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology,” Kuykenstrong chairman Mike Foss said. “This is a realization of what Shawn Kuykendall intended Kuykenstrong to be.”

Kuykenstrong’s pledge will benefit the Happily Hungry program at Georgetown. Happily Hungry provides comprehensive nutrition education on-site at Georgetown, teaching and feeding patients and families at the hospital. The program is run by Danielle Cook, a chef, author and parent of a cancer survivor.

“I met Danielle at Georgetown shortly after Shawn’s passing in 2014,” Foss said. “Her dedication to the children being treated is remarkable, and I can’t think of a more worthy program for Kuykenstrong to support.”

“In turn, donations like this aren’t possible without the support we receive from the community,” Foss added. “We are grateful to everyone who has donated and volunteered in support of our fundraisers over the past year.”

The next Kuykenstrong fundraiser is the Shawn Kuykendall Memorial Tournament August 20-21 in Leesburg, VA.
